Arrowtown Museum

The iconic former BNZ building in Arrowtown was built in 1875, and now houses the Lakes District Museum.

Designed by the notable Robert Lawson, and built during a time of prosperity, the building was a key architectural landmark for Arrowtown and helped establish the permanence of the town.

The BNZ building project was an important restoration of a historic building; we were honoured to do the lead parapet work.

Lead is a traditional craft, with very few experienced craftsmen in New Zealand who are qualified to undertake a restoration project such as this. One of the world’s oldest and most durable building materials, lead was often chosen because of its resistance to corrosion and ease to work with.

Lead is also an exceptionally sustainable building material. as one of the most effectively recycled materials in the world, today more lead is produced through recycling than mining.
